“Danieli and Bezo both say one of the most important steps is to acknowledge and discuss the atrocities.”
Psychologically, this is a huge and essential part in the healing process. I have been involved in international conflict transformation for some years, and this is always one of the recurring comments. People who have suffered, directly or indirectly, at the hands of a war criminal want these brutalities at least to be recognized. Only then can personal healing make substantial progress.
Because of these experiences, I have to understand that our way forward is sharing our suffering. That is not the same as complaining. It is acknowledging our pain and acting upon it. And sharing that process helps the healing process. I wrote about this in “Let Us Suffer Together”.
